I worked with Sue in Bellingham Ward during our 2019 campaign to re-elect Ellie Reeves. She was utterly dedicated to supporting the Labour Party despite the political difficult conditions at the time and the lack of personnel from the Bellingham branch able to put in the hours. In those dark wet evenings she remained irrepressible, working as hard as she did as a Councillor. In that role I remember her telling me of having to console a family of a boy who had been a fatal victim of knife crime. Few people would have been able to show the compassion and give the huge support that she did. Sue was never a woman to seek public office as a stepping stone to higher things but truly only wanted to serve her local community. A genuine soul with a natural generosity, a warm heart and a hearty laugh that lit up the room.
